NYC Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide

Gluten-free friends, I finally put together a list with all of my fave spots in NYC for enjoying some of the best food sans gluten!

If you’re gluten-free and/ or dairy free for any reason (never judge) … I get it, eating out and finding your favorite foods that you can actually eat (pasta, pizza, ramen, bagels), may seem like a big challenge!  But, I have found so many amazing spots over the years and want to share them so you can enjoy them too! This guide is mainly focused on gluten-free options, but many of these places also have great dairy free options!

gluten-free pasta NYC, Palma

Palma

TAKEOUT:
Le Botaniste- This is entirely vegan and gluten-free! I love their bowls and soups for a quick healthy lunch or takeout.
Spring Bone- Another menu that is entirely gluten-free! My go-to for bone broth and bowls made with clean ingredients and no inflammatory oils… YAY! Locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Locanut- This is a go-to for healthy takeout! They offer so many tasty and nutritious options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks. Plus, they cater to many dietary preferences outside of just gluten (paleo, etc)!
Modern Bread & Bagel- You know New Yorkers and their bagels! This spot is entirely gluten-free offering up bagels and other delicious baked goods that will not disappoint!
Bonberimart- A healthy mini mart with lovely healthy breakfast and lunch options. They carry lots of gluten-free options including some pretty awesome muffins!

Spring Cafe Aspen - NYC

DINING:
Palma-
If you love homemade pasta and struggle to find it gluten-free in NYC, look no further! Palma makes incredible gluten-free pasta in house. The menu is not entirely gluten free, but you can sub gf pasta in most dishes and your non gluten-free friends can still be excited to go, because it really is that good!
Double zero- This Italian spot is a plant-based pizzeria, with gluten-free options for most items on the menu. So if you’re dairy free and gluten-free this is a great place for things like pizza and pasta!

Spring Cafe Aspen- A quaint cafe for a healthy lunch or breakfast! They have a pretty extensive plant forward menu (not vegan) including, juices, smoothies, lattes, salads, wraps, sandwiches, and comfort food items. And yes, it’s mostly gluten-free and they offer gluten free wraps, breads, and baked goods!

TLK- An absolute must for all of your asian fusion favorites because this menu is entirely gluten-free, so you can eat worry free! From noodles, to coconut shrimp, and tasty veggie sides, your mouth will be watering over this menu and I promise you will not be disappointed, even if you’re not gf!

The Mary Lane- A West Village favorite, this restaurant is a go-to for it’s high quality locally sourced seasonal food making for flavourful and creative dishes that have an upscale feel. Many items are gluten-free!

ABCV- A Jean-Georges veggie focused restaurant that provides many gluten-free and vegan options and substitutions. Dishes are creative and vibrant!

Ramen Danbo- Damn is it hard to find gluten-free ramen! Often neither the broth or the noodles are gf! Fortunately this spot offers a vegan broth that is gluten-free and they have a gluten-free noodle option, which is not on the menu (you have to ask). They don’t always have the gluten-free noodles in stock, so call before you go! And yes, it’s actually good ramen! Locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Planta- I’m not vegan, but as someone that doesn’t eat dairy or gluten, plant forward restaurants typically have great options, and Planta is one of those spots! A good portion of their menu is gf, so ask your server to indicate which items are gf or can be made gf. The matcha cheesecake is to die for! Locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Ol’days- This is a great farm to table spot for a healthy lunch or breakfast, using high quality local ingredients. Not everything is gluten-free, but their menu is clearly marked and they have plenty of options!

Wild- Another entirely gluten-free spot with a mix of healthy options and comfort food like pizza and pasta. Great for brunch and dinner!

Sottocasa- A great no frills authentic Italian spot for pizza. While their entire menu is not gluten-free, they offer a gluten-free crust option for all pizzas, plus a vegan cheese option too! Not a good spot for anyone that has celiac or an allergy though because they use the same oven for regular and gf.

Babacool- I am always happy eating breakfast at Babacool, this spot has become one of my go-tos in Brooklyn! I love their breakfast bowls, salads, and chia pudding, which are all gluten-free and nutritious.

Matchaful- If you know me or follow me you know I love this place and not just for the matcha lattes! They have an awesome selection of gluten-free baked goods and snacks, some of which come from the places listed below.

Knead Love Bakery- The best thing I have found since becoming gf! It’s is an entirely gluten-free bakery. What’s so special about it though?! They use high quality local ingredients, no refined sugar, and most products are sourdough and vegan! They do not have a storefront- but, you can get their products at NYC farmer’s markets on certain days, order online, or at some local NYC and Brooklyn spots!

Sixteen Mill- Another wonderful gluten-free, refined sugar free, and vegan bakeshop located in Brooklyn. They recently opened their first storefront and some of their products are also available at some local NYC and Brooklyn spots!

If you’re concerned about cross contamination and you have a food sensitivity, I highly recommend gluten-away by Just Thrive, which can help to break down trace amounts of gluten that might be hiding in your food!

Reminder: If you have celiac or an allergy always alert your server or call the restaurant ahead of time! Only some of the places I listed are entirely gluten-free, and some have more precautions in place than others!
