Spirulina Super Smoothie

 

SPIRULINA SUPER SMOOTHIE

This combo has great texture and flavor… and of course is packed with nutrients that will power you through the day!  It happens to be a really pretty color too!

Ingredients:

1/2 frozen banana
1 frozen kiwi
1/3 of an avocado
1/3 of a zucchini 
1 handful of spinach
1 tsp spirulina powder
1/2 bottle of TJs coconut smoothie (sub w/ coconut water)
Splash of water

Method

  • Add all ingredients to a blend and blend until smooth.

Spirulina is a superfood with lots of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients.  It’s a type of blue-green algae that contains a blue pigment, which works as a powerful antioxidant. It can help to improve mood, reduce symptoms of depression, control blood sugar, and promote heart health.

I’ve been working on creating some smoothie combos that are easier to digest.  I find certain combos of protein, fat and fruit don’t work well for me.  Fruit is digested very quickly and other foods like fats and proteins take longer to move through your digestive system- so when you have certain combinations of these things it can cause digestive discomfort.  This smoothie feels really great for me and is filling enough to have as a meal!
